All Four Drivers in Top 10 for TruSpeed Motorsports at Sonoma

TruSpeed Motorsports wrapped up their 2012 Pirelli World Challenge season by placing all four of its drivers in the top 10 at Sonoma this weekend, helping Porsche claim 3rd place in the manufacturer’s championship as a result. Led by Lawson Aschenbach, who finished 4th in Sunday’s race in the #1 PrivacyStar / Entrust Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, the team collected a haul of manufacturer’s points, but in the end missed splitting the two factory efforts of Cadillac and Volvo by a single, lone point.

Brett Sandberg collected his best result of the season with a 6th place finish in the #47 Monticello Motor Club Porsche as former Pirelli World Challenge GT driver’s champion Brandon Davis claimed an impressive 7th with zero testing in the #46 PrivacyStar / NADAGuides.com Porsche. Jeff Courtney got off to his best start of the season and went on to finish 9th in the GT class, giving TruSpeed an impressive showing at the undulating, hilly Northern California road course.

Tyler Tadevic, TruSpeed’s Team Manager said, “While we’re bummed to have missed 2nd in the manufacturer’s championship on Porsche’s behalf, we’re proud of our team’s effort over this whole season. Coming into this last round, we had aimed to split the two factory efforts, and came within a single point of spoiling Volvo’s season. I say that with a lot of respect; they’ve been stiff competition all season, and if you look at the results, they’ve had the car to beat all year. They’ve either DNFed out of races or they’ve taken the pole and race wins. We’ve been the privateer team to beat all year, and at times we’ve been the best on the track too, so that’s encouraging. Without the resources of the GM or the Volvo factories, we feel like we’ve more than held our own, and we’re excited to get back to it after a winter of development and testing.”

He continued, “We’ve had a huge cast of characters that deserve a big thanks this year, but especially so to our partners at PrivacyStar, Entrust, Corsa Car Care, Eibach, Justice Brothers and Zoro Tools. Our drivers Lawson, Brett, Brandon, Jeff, Justin Marks, Tomy Drissi and Madison Snow were a pleasure to work with this season, and we’re eager to continue our relationship with all of them. It’s definitely worth noting that Madison won the Pirelli World Challenge Rookie of the Year award too, and he’s still only 16 years old!”

TruSpeed will announce its 2013 plans in due course, but fans and media alike can expect an expanded schedule and for the team to add races in more racing series across North America.

TruSpeed Hits Pirelli World Challenge Home Stretch

Mansfield, OH – August 1, 2012

With three races left to run in the 2012 Pirelli World Challenge Series, TruSpeed Motorsports enters a critical doubleheader at Mid-Ohio this weekend. Rounds 10 and 11 are scheduled on the classic central Ohio road course, and the TruSpeed team enters the weekend with designs on closing the gaps in the Team, Driver’s and Manufacturer’s championships, at a track that suits their Porsches’ characteristics.

After nine of 12 rounds run, TruSpeed trails Cadillac in the team championship, Porsche sits second in the manufacturer’s championship, and Lawson Aschenbach sits 3rd in the driver’s championship. Johnny O’Connell and Andy Pilgrim are presently 1-2 for Cadillac, and that team has entered a third factory car for Mid-Ohio in an attempt to pad their manufacturer’s championship lead. The team is confident in its chances to move up one critical position in each championship category this weekend.

TruSpeed will run three cars this weekend: the #1 Entrust / PrivacyStar Porsche for Lawson Aschenbach, the #47 Monticello Motor Club / TruSpeed Porsche for Brett Sandberg, and the #99 Kenda Tire Porsche for Jeff Courtney.

Team Manager Tyler Tadevic said, “This is a really big and important weekend for us, but fortunately we’re at a track that traditionally favors Porsches, and is a track that Lawson thinks of as his home track. Lawson’s going to be fast here, and we’re looking to make up ground on the Cadillacs as we rush for the season’s finish line. Cadillac has added a third car for the weekend knowing that all of us Porsche teams are gunning for them, so that’s a nice compliment to pay us, in a way. Lawson will be running with more ‘rewards’ ballast on his car than any other car in the race, so we’re at a slight disadvantage, but we’re confident and looking forward to doing Porsche and our sponsors proud this weekend.”
He continued, “We’re excited to have Brett Sandberg back with us this weekend – he proved to be very fast at his last race with us in Mosport. I don’t think his results that weekend were indicative of his ability, nor do I think they’re indicative of where he’ll end up this weekend. We’re hoping top-five for Brett, and I think that’s realistic. Similarly, we’re thrilled to have Jeff Courtney back with us. He was away for a few races, but he’s back in the #99 and we’re happy to have him help contribute to our chase for the manufacturer’s and team championships.”

The Pirelli World Cup will race in support of both the American Le Mans Series and IndyCar Series this weekend at Mid-Ohio, with qualifying Friday and twin races Saturday and Sunday. For more information, visit: http://world-challenge.com

TruSpeed Solid at Mosport

TruSpeed Motorsport started its doubleheader weekend of Pirelli World Challenge racing on the back foot, as drivers Lawson Aschenbach and Brett Sandberg both were not in attendance at the track for Friday testing and practice due to Grand-Am racing commitments in Wisconsin. Their planned absence left the bulk of car setup work for all three cars to rookie Madison Snow, who made his 4th World Challenge start of the season. Snow delivered results well beyond his years, helping the team with the complicated task of setup – a task normally performed by veteran drivers.

In qualifying for Saturday’s race one at Mosport, Aschenbach drove the #1 PrivacyStar / Entrust Porsche 911 GT3 Cup to 6th on the grid, Sandberg drove the #47 Monticello Motor Club / TruSpeed car to 10th, and Snow drove the #46 ZORO Tools car to 11th.

Team Manager Tyler Tadevic said, “We were behind some of our competitors in qualifying and the race on Saturday only because we were missing two of our drivers for testing and practice on Friday, and Mosport is a tough place to set a Porsche up for. Madison did a great job, but we needed to have the other guys there to help him along. Saturday’s race was pretty straightforward, and we were able to get Lawson home in 4th, Brett in 6th and Madison in 8th, meaning they all improved their position. That was great news for the team, but unfortunately O’Connell in the Cadillac finished ahead of Lawson in that race and extended his championship lead. All three cars were suffering from some setup issues during the race, pushing here and lacking grip there, but our guys did commendably well under the circumstances.”

The team regrouped Saturday night and found several improvements to make to the cars ahead of Sunday’s qualifying, which would see Lawson qualify 5th, Brett 7th, and Madison 10th.

Tadevic continued, “Sunday’s race was good to us. The GT field got away cleanly at the start, and Lawson was able to jump to 4th with a nice pass on the first lap, then there was a caution period for an accident in the GTS field. After the restart, Lawson hounded Alex Figge for about 5 laps before he made a move stick, working up to 3rd. He was circulating behind Johnny O’Connell’s Cadillac for several laps, not really making an impression on him but not losing ground either, when the Cadillac had a tire failure. If you’d told me before the weekend we would have gained points in the championship relative to the leader, I’d have been thrilled.”

“Madison did a great job in Sunday’s race, clicking off laps and gaining experience for his race back here next month in the IMSA GT3 Challenge series – his main championship. I think he’ll have a good idea of what to do when he’s back here next, and it’s been a true pleasure to work with him and his family. The kid’s the real deal. It was great to see the ZORO Tools car so well settled in, and we’re excited about Madison’s future. We’re happy to have had the ZORO Tools folks onboard this weekend.”

Tadevic said, “Brett was good enough to jump onboard with the team a race early, and I don’t think the results show his ability well. He was lapping only .3 to .4 of a second off of Lawson all weekend, and he’ll get quicker with more time in the car. He’s a very intelligent kid, and we’re excited to run him at Mid-Ohio and Sears Point later this season. We’re looking to make up some lost ground at the last two races.

“Lastly, while we’re not looking too likely to retain our driver’s championship this season, we’ve done ourselves a favor in the manufacturer’s championship for Porsche. We’re within striking distance with three races left to go, and with some more hard work, we might well overtake Cadillac yet. It’d be the coup de grâce to beat GM and Cadillac to that goal two years in a row, so that’s our primary target now.”

The Pirelli World Challenge Series now enters its summer break, taking the month of July off. The series will resume with rounds 10 and 11 at Mid-Ohio on August 3, 2012.

TruSpeed Ventures to the Great White North for World Challenge Rounds 8-9

TruSpeed Motorsports returns to action this weekend in “America’s Hat,” at the ultra-high speed Mosport International Raceway near Toronto, Ontario. Mosport, one of the most fearsome and respected tracks in North America, will host the Pirelli World Challenge Series rounds eight and nine this Saturday and Sunday.

TruSpeed will field three cars for its trip north of the border: the #1 PrivacyStar / Entrust Porsche 911 GT3 Cup for Lawson Aschenbach, the #46 ZORO Tools Porsche 911 GT3 Cup for Madison Snow, and the #47 Monticello Motor Club Porsche 911 GT3 Cup for Bret Sandberg.

Snow makes his third Pirelli World Cup start with TruSpeed of the 2012 season, having lodged solid results at Miller Motorsports Park and at Belle Isle in Detroit. Sandberg joins the team with plans to race the rest of the season at Mid-Ohio and Sonoma as well.

Aschenbach enters the race weekend 3rd in the Driver’s Championship, 220 points behind Johnny O’Connell. While Mosport is a track that typically favors high-horsepower cars rather than the more nimble Porsches, the team is optimistic of a strong weekend’s results.

Team Manager Tyler Tadevic said, “Our whole organization has been flat out for the last five weeks, and we’re excited to catch our breath after Mosport. First things first, however – we’re locked and loaded for a competitive weekend at Mosport. It’s a real racer’s track, with one of the fastest, most blind, off-camber corners on the entire continent, and it’s a place that demands respect. We’re hopeful for our chances despite the relative disadvantage we have to the high-horsepower Cadillacs, because we had a great race at Mosport last year and the team’s pretty dialed in right now. We’re looking forward to getting on track Friday.”

The Pirelli World Challenge Series will race at Mosport beginning Friday, June 22. For more information, visit: http://world-challenge.com/

Aschenbach Records Two 2nd Place Finishes in Detroit

Lawson Aschenbach, driving the #1 PrivacyStar / Entrust Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, claimed two runner-up finishes in the dual races on the streets of Belle Isle, Detroit this weekend, passing Randy Pobst to climb to 3rd in the Pirelli World Challenge Championship with four races remaining in the season.

TruSpeed’s Tomy Drissi, driving the #47 Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter Porsche 911 GT3, finished 8th in Saturday’s race and 7th in Sunday’s race, while 16-year old Madison Snow, driving the #46 Zoro Tools 911 Porsche 911 GT3, finished 9th Saturday and 8th Sunday.

Saturday’s race saw extended caution periods, the first one caused by polesitter Randy Pobst stalling his Volvo at the start and being heavily impacted from behind by a car starting further down the grid. A full course caution consumed the first 12 laps of the race, and while Aschenbach was able to pull closely behind Johnny O’Connell’s rear bumper, there simply wasn’t enough time spent under green for him to pass for the lead.  The race finished under caution for a second incident, cutting short what the team felt was a ripe opportunity to pull back points from championship leader O’Connell.

Team Manager Tyler Tadevic said, “We missed the setup on Lawson’s car a bit for initial qualifying, so he was only able to qualify in 4th position, but in the end all three of our guys had solid cars under them. With so few green flag laps in the race Saturday, there wasn’t much opportunity for the strengths of our Porsches to come into effects, so we had a bit of a bitter taste in our mouths after that race. That’s just how it goes sometimes, however.”

Aschenbach started Sunday’s race from the outside of the first row by virtue of his 2nd place finish Saturday, and was able to take advantage of O’Connell’s poor start to take the lead into the first corner. Lawson led the most laps of the race, but made a mistake in the lead which allowed O’Connell to pass him, and another late caution period prevented a late attempt for Aschenbach to pass.

Tadevic said, “It’s good that Lawson able to jump Randy Pobst in the championship standings this weekend, but Johnny O’Connell was able to stretch his lead a bit by winning both races. It was a pleasure to have Tomy race with us, and he was his typical solid self all weekend, getting faster and staying out of trouble.”

“It was a treat having Madison Snow and his family with us again. He was fantastic in the Zoro Tools car and didn’t put a wheel wrong all weekend. It’s confidence-inspiring to see him learn so much and perform so well at this stage in his career, and we’re looking forward to having him back again. Our crew performed – as they always do – perfectly, and we’re leaving Detroit with our heads held high. We’re really thankful to the Zoro Tools folks for their sponsorship, and hopefully they’ve got a good taste of what’s possible in motorsport. We’ve got a couple of Canadian races coming up with IMSA GT3 Cup supporting Formula One in Montreal this coming weekend, then it’s off to Mosport for the twin bill in World Challenge again. We’re looking forward to getting back to racing and we’re hopeful of clawing back some points from the Cadillacs.”

TruSpeed Motorsports races next in Pirelli World Challenge at Mosport International Raceway, near Toronto, on June 22-23, 2012.
